Dear Raven Internet Marketing Tools:
One of my fellow marketers sent me an email this morning showing a screen shot of Facebook. She thought it was funny that about 10 times a day she sees this ad in her stream on Facebook.
I didn’t think it was funny. And here’s why:
- I wasn’t asked if I endorsed your product.
(Apparently when you click “Like” it is implicitly an endorsement.) - I wasn’t compensated for the endorsement.
- I wasn’t even notified that my profile pic and name were associated with your product.
(Of course, it may be in one of the thousands of pages of fine print that Facebook puts out.)
It’s most likely Facebook’s fault, but I can’t help but feel a bit peeved at the company I supposedly endorse either.

Facebook Ad Stories… Go figure. I don’t remember opting in for that.

This will make me go through ALL of my Facebook likes and reconsider who may or may not use me to endorse their product.
Often times I “like” a brand to get to know them a bit more – Hell, I may not have even used them yet . . . Not cool.
