This morning I noticed an article in my Facebook stream.
News 14 Carolina: Marriage amendment battle gearing up in NC
Advocates for and against the proposed constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage in North Carolina are gearing up for September’s legislative session. Both sides say they are already lobbying lawmakers and citizens on this controversial issue.
As a married heterosexual myself I’ve never understood why anyone would care if gays get married. But it seems to spark off the same sort of visceral response in extremist christians that atheists do.
Here’s a subtle veneer covering a brutal primitivism of fear, the sort that led our species through the Dark Ages wherein neighbor burned neighbor at the stake in some misbegotten effort of conformity…
Or maybe I just ate too much popcorn last night at the movie theater, and this perspective is another aspect of my indigestion and insomnia. I doubt it though. I think people really are that scared of not having conformity.
